Many thanks to Susie Coiner, Carol Gault and all the other fantastic volunteers who bring us BBQ on the River each year. Coiner came up with the idea and helped implement the first festival 13 years ago with just 16 cooking teams. When they ran out of BBQ by noon the first day, she knew the event would be a long-lasting hit. "The ingredients have all gone together so well every year, and it keeps growing and we keep adding the right things at the right time," Coiner says. "When you have all the right things in place, you can expect an event to do well."

There's no doubt that the event goes well. This weekend, 45 teams fed 40,000 people! In fact, early Thursday evening folks were already lined up at the Buzzard Bros. booth.

And, of course, what's a festival without fried Twinkies? Congratulations everyone!

Early last evening, Sept. 26, Mayor Bill Paxton announced to a lively crowd of supporters and news reporters and bloggers that he will, indeed, seek a third term as mayor of Paducah.

The event was held at the Quilt Museum — a fitting spot considering the significant role the mayor played in securing the Quilt Show’s scheduled return in 2008. The mayor highlighted the numerous advances the city has made during the past several years, including the Artist Relocation Program. That’s Ike and Char Erwin of Working Artist Studios, above. He also talked about several initiatives in the works that he’s passionate about continuing to pursue as mayor.

Paducah Sun reporter Bill Bartleman (above) recaps the speech in a front-page story today. WPSD, Heartland News Channel 11 and WKYX covered the announcement, as well.

The mayor thanks everyone for coming! Stay tuned for more campaign details — and best wishes to all the mayoral candidates!

The iMac that started the William Sledd revolution is for sale on eBay and it can be yours — if you have the highest bid, of course. The bidding started the other day at $99.99 and is now hovering past the $500 mark. Quite a bargain, considering the brains that spent so much time in front of it!

“…i would have NEVER started to make Youtube Videos, I only started because everything i need was right here on my iMac,” William writes, with little concern for out-of-fashion capitalization. “I am really sad about getting rid of my iMac, but times are changing and i have grown out of this computer…instead of letting it sit and collect dust, I will let it change someone else's life….”

Super cute, William. Also for sale: his lovely Size 11 Tiffany sterling silver ring which has been replaced with a square version, the green Desi(red) Gap T-shirt he wore in his very famous Denim Edition video, a Gucci murse and one of his fabulous Ws, which he has autographed. He’ll also autograph the iMac, per request.

William says he's hosting this cyber yard sale because he's trying to change his "pack rat" ways. Wonder if he has any Pradas, size 7 1/2, that he'd like to part with.... Anyway, check out his sale — just a few days left to buy a little bit of William for your home or closet! He has just posted a fun new video timeline, too.

Well, yep, Sir Mix-a-Lot would be lovin’ Kentucky. About 60 percent of us have big butts, ranking Kentucky fifth in the nation on the obesity scale.

That’s according to the latest statistics from the Get Healthy Kentucky initiative introduced last year by the lovely First Lady Glenna Fletcher — who, as we know, is slim and trim. Plus, Kentucky has the highest smoking rate in the country. So not only are we, um, livin' large, we’re also smokin’ — and not in a good way.

First Lady Fletcher will discuss these statistics and what we need to do to get in gear at the new Baptist Heart Center tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 26. And cardiologist Patrick Withrow will be on hand to talk about healthy hearts, too. The event is from noon to 1 p.m., with a healthy lunch included. RSVP to 575.2918.

A beautiful T-shirt is now available to help raise funds for beautiful Hillary Coltharp, who was in a horrible car accident Sept. 1, on the way to meeting her family for dinner. The 26-year-old is being treated at Vanderbilt, and most definitely needs our prayers. Hillary’s parents are Shawn and Paul Coltharp. Her little boy, Max, is 6.

Details about ordering the shirt are on the absolutely lovely Hillablog Web site, where her mom posts frequent, honest and moving updates on Hillary’s care and recovery, along with photos of her caregivers and her life before the accident. Friends and family post comments and photos, too — it’s become an amazing online community of support and prayers.

Hillary has no health insurance, which makes the fundraising so important. There’s an account set up at First Southern Bank in Kevil. If you’d like to donate, please make your checks payable to Shawn or Paul Coltharp, for the benefit of Hillary Coltharp. You can either deliver checks to the bank or mail them to PO Box 220, Kevil, Ky., 42053.

When you call up and get James Hinman’s voicemail, you hear country crooner Alan Jackson singing, “But don't be downhearted, I can fix it for you, Sonny. It won't take too long, it'll just take money….”

Ah, if money could have fixed Hinman’s downhearted problems in Judge Chris Hollowell’s courtroom on Tuesday. As the Paducah Sun’s Bill Bartleman (love him!) reported on today’s front page, Hollowell sentenced Hinman to a night behind bars for appearing in his courtroom wearing an “obscene” T-shirt. The Sun ran Bartleman’s photo of a sad-looking, orange-jumper clad Hinman in jail, holding the offending shirt all waddled up.

If you’re like me, you wanna see the shirt un-waddled. So I called up Hinman to ask if he'd show it to me. I left a message — that's how I know about his Alan Jackson ringtone — and then he called back.

First of all, he sounds very sweet. He works on a boat. And he’s very embarrassed over the photo as he had just been through the jail's delousing process — yick — and was not looking his best. You can tell that he’s probably way cuter when he’s not in custody.

Anyway, he says that he got up Tuesday morning and, knowing he was going to court to pay a traffic fine, he reached for one of his newer T-shirts, which he purchased at Spencer’s in the mall.

He’d been better off wearing an old ratty one. What he selected as his fashion statement du jour was a fake beer T-shirt featuring that silhouette woman truck drivers seem to love so much. But it wasn't really the silhouette woman that upset the judge. It was the “name” of the fake beer. So, if you wanna see it, here's the link to Spencer’s. And yep, it's raunchy. He should have checked with Laura K first.

“If he’d said, ‘Go home and change,’ or ‘Pay this fine for wearing it,’ then that’s one thing,” Hinman told me. “But, ‘Have a seat, you’re going to jail’ — that was not expected.”

No, reckon not.

Well, what do you think? Is a night in the pokey just punishment for bad T-shirt taste? Seems awfully harsh considering that Hinman was actually making an effort to look, well, nice. Check out Bartleman's story for more details.

UPDATE: Our new friend with the questionable taste in T-shirts just called to say that he appeared in front of Judge Hollowell again today (Sept. 25), this time wearing a plaid button-down shirt and jeans — yay, James! — and paid all his fines. Turns out there was a gal in the same court wearing jammy bottoms and fuzzy slippers. Hinman's situation has received quite a bit of coverage. He's definitely Google-able now, and evidently USA Today ran something about it the other day on that page where they do news recaps from state to state. Hinman is now seeking legal advice.

I haven’t yet met Hooper, our local promoter of all things band, but this young man could very well be the Bill Graham — not to be confused with Will Graham, who's headed our way Sept. 14-16 — of our time. Hooper has already tentatively scheduled Paducahpalooza III for July 18, 19 and 20, 2008 — so mark your next year's calendar! He organizes this hottest show of the year to celebrate local bands and, based on our post below, local young people who decide to propose to one another right in the middle of the whole she-bang. For details on next year’s show and to sign up your band, check out Hooper’s Web site! Rock on, Hooper!

Get your tickets for Rumors, now playing at the Market House Theatre (MHT)! Word on the street is that this Neil Simon comedy is extremely fast-paced, high-energy and very funny. The cast includes (in photo above) Jody Smith, Victoria Parrish, Gena Karnes, Steve Schwetman, Marsha Cash and Roy Hensel, as well as Fowler Black, Sarah Bynum, Shane Clapp and Sarah Steele.

In fact, Jody, Marsha and Fowler saw the show at MHT several years ago, which inspired them to try out for this run. The show kicks off the theatre’s 44th season. “I enjoyed watching it so much that the memory has stayed with me all these years," Jody says. "So, when the opportunity came around again, I knew I had to try. I think it's one of the funniest plays I've ever seen! The audience should expect to hurt from laughing so much!”

Marsha was in the audience back then, too. “Rumors was the first play I saw at the MHT,” she says. “I laughed all the way through the show. I said to myself, ‘I wish I could do that.’ So here I am.”

The show is one of Fowler’s favorites. “The energy and humor hooked me,” he says. Fowler plays the husband of Sarah Bynum — and, can I just say, what a darling couple they would make. But I don’t wanna start any rumors or anything. This is Sarah’s debut performance at the Market House.

“With humor, miscommunication and fast-paced conversation, Rumors is a farce to be reckoned with,” Sarah says. “Hopefully, members of the audience haven't experienced a dinner party quite like this!”

How can you go wrong with a Neil Simon show with a great cast? Be sure to check it out. It plays tonight (Thursday), Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. And also the same days and times next week.

UPDATE: Did you see the Sun story on the "bubbly, blue-eyed Bynum" yesterday (Thursday)? Cute, cute, cute! Thanks, MzB, by the way, for the shout out!

Evidently, Barkley Airport’s Hertz Rental Car owner Eddie Narozniak has a soft spot for doves, especially the one who deposited two eggs in the nest she built on the windshield of his, until-now, rentable Kia SUVs. Instead of disturbing the nest, Narozniak has temporarily sidelined the SUV until mom and kids take off!
