TITLE: $1 Million Dollars: Rock on, Ray and Kay!
AUTHOR: Ryan
DATE: 4/29/2008 07:24:00 AM
—–
BODY:
Ray and Kay Eckstein are the bombdiggity. Their charitable trust recently contributed $1 million to create a new cardiovascular building at Lourdes. It's the largest gift in the history of the Lourdes Foundation. And as a big ol' thank you, Lourdes will name the building the Ray and Kay Eckstein Cardiovascular Institute.
(Hum. Can we call it the "Ray and Kay" for short? As in, "I have an appointment at the Ray and Kay." Or, "Those Ray and Kay doctors really know what they're doing." Just a thought.)
Anyway, everyone at Lourdes is all a-buzz, including Foundation Executive Director Tara Miller — who, by the way, looks like Scarlett Johansson's far prettier twin sister. “In collaboration with the Lourdes Foundation Board of Directors, we work hard each day to cultivate philanthropic funds that make a significant investment in our healing ministry,” Tara says. “We are honored that Ray and Kay Eckstein felt led to support this exciting project for our community.”
The Ray and Kay is scheduled to open January 2009.

BODY:
On Oct. 24, 25 and 26, breast cancer survivor Jennifer Smith will trek through 60 miles around Atlanta as part of the Susan G. Koman for the Cure Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. It's an amazing event — thousands of women and men it each year, covering 20 or so miles per day (give or take) and camping out at night.
Along with getting ready for such a feat on her feet, Jennifer, customer sales leader for Bath & Body Works, must raise $3,000. So she's putting together a cookbook and needs our help. If you'd like to submit a recipe or some cancer survival tidbit or tip, please send Jennifer an email. She's especially interested in hearing from other survivors.
In the meantime, visit her Web page to keep up with her progress!

BODY:
If you're a Chamber member, or thinking of joining, here's a neato program that most anyone would enjoy: Leadership Paducah Class 22.
It's a group of 30 or so folks selected each year to spend the first Thursday of each month together, learning about everything that makes our area tick. From tourism and education to health care and local government to industry and communications, it's like earning a master's degree in the subject of Paducah/McCracken County.
Plus, it's led by Hottie Stacy "Brickhouse" Thomas (that's her, with the Stacettes, from Class 21, during their Karaoke Contest performance), so it's definitely fun. And you automatically make 30 new friends you'll keep in touch with long after your Leadership year ends.
If you'd like to be a part of Class 22, download the application and get it to Stacy. Her phone is 443.1746, or just send an email. Deadline: Friday, May 9. (PS: If you do join Class 22, please do the Karaoke Contest again next year. It's one of the best fundraisers in town!)

BODY:
Hottie Hunka Hunka Chad Wilson is on the LowerTown Home Tour tonight. That's him above. See how cute he is? Anyway, when you go into his bedroom, look to your left and you'll see his high school photo, circa Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever:
Now you might be wondering what I was doing snooping around Chad Wilson's bedroom. Chad Wilson probably wonders what I was doing snooping around his bedroom. The truth is, he hosted a party awhile back and I went upstairs to use the facilities, right off his lovely room. (He said it was OK!) Anyway, I spotted his picture there on his little bookshelf and thought to myself, no kidding, I really did: "Hum, one day I might need that photo."
So today is our lucky day.
Don't miss tonight's home tour. Along with Chad Wilson's bedroom, you'll get to see bedrooms belonging to Hottie McHot Hot Michael Crouse, Elaine Spalding and Keyth Kahrs, Rodney and Sidney Wright and Allan and Johanna Rhodes and many more. It's all here detailed in this PDF. Buy $10 tix at the Texaco Station, 7th and Madison. They're good for tonight and Saturday night, 6-9 p.m.!

Well, the amazingly wonderful Ro Morse has done it again. Most recently, she added Ro's Simple Pleasures cookbook to her famous collection (and to our own Ro collection). And now she comes out with 100 Things to Enjoy in Historic Paducah.
This cute, cute, cute book is about the size of a postcard but filled with all sorts of Paducah highlights ranging from Art, Quilts, Tours, Museums, Views, Shopping, Activities, Foods and our favorite category, Events. Ro even gives iList Paducah a shout-out in a list of online resources toward the back. Rock on, Ro! Her biggest challenge was to limit her list to 100. The American Quilter's Society, which published the book, did the hard part. They made the cuts.
Ro will be signing the books at noon, Thursday, April 24, at the Quilt Museum. Congratulations, Ro!

BODY:
Our friend Rachel Biel Taibi has launched a new blog just in time for Quilt Week! It's called Fiber Focus, with postings on textiles, embroidery, threads, straw and weaving. Her special interests include ethnic and tribal textiles, art quilts and the cultural context of fiber products in different societies. Read her blog to find out all about the goings-on in Paducah's fiber world!
AQS Director Bonnie Browning also has a blog. It's called Bonnie B's Blog. Her posts cover everything from quilting and judging to travel, photography and the outdoors. She does a great job of reflecting the beauty and excitement of Paducah. Quilters from all over have been reading her blog as they prepare for Quilt Week!
Congratulations to Rachel and Bonnie!

David Boggs -- he is cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! And he's a quilter, too. His work is featured this week in the windows of the Paducah Main Street office, 321 Broadway.
